Shalby Hospital is a multi-speciality private hospital based in Ahmedabad.[1] It was established in 1994 as a Joint Replacement Centre by knee-replacement surgeon, Dr. Vikram Shah.[2]
Overview
Shalby Hospital was started for offering for the first time in the Ahmedabad— Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. Shalby Hospitals transitioned from a small 15-bed single specialty unit established in 1993 to a technologically advanced 200-bed multi-specialty hospital in 2007 and today it offers care in over 25 medical disciplines ranging from cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, trauma, cosmetology to ENT.[3][4] Shalby hospital on Ahmedabad's Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Road performs the maximum number of joint replacement surgeries a day in a single hospital anywhere in the world.[5]
Founder
The Founder, Chairman and the Managing Director of Shalby Hospitals, Dr Vikram I. Shah has revolutionised joint replacement by reducing the surgery time through the invention of ‘OS Needle’. He has mastered his skills in joint replacement surgeries, created and built a team of healthcare professionals, established two hospitals and conducted numerous outpatient services across India and in Nairobi, Kenya. He and his team perform 450 - 500 joint replacement surgeries every month. Dr Vikram Shah’s achievements include being awarded Dr. B.C. Roy International Award for joint replacement surgery in the year 2003.[6]
Awards and achievements
- Shalby Hospital has won the award for ‘Best Operational Excellence in Healthcare, 2011’ from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi.[7]
- It has become the only hospital in Gujarat to receive the Diplomat in National Board (DNB) certificate in orthopaedics.[8]
- Over 20,000 TKRs were performed during the period 1993-2009 by the joint replacement team spearheaded by Dr Shah.[9]
- The surgical time in the hospital has been dramatically reduced from 1:20 mins / TKR in 1994 to approximately 22 mins, thereby reducing the infection rate from 1-2 per cent in 1994 to .03-.04 per cent at present.
