Biography

Booysen was born in Cape Town, the second-largest city in South Africa and began playing football at Ajax Cape Town as a ten-year-old. Four years later he joined the full-time Hellenic Academy, one of the best in the country, for three years and appeared for the Western Province U-17s. In his mid-teens he moved to the country’s most successful club Mamelodi Sundowns and played for their reserves for two years before spells at Gleneden United, back to Ajax Cape Town and a loan stint in the National First Division with Ikapa Sporting. In March of 2014, Booysen took the decision to pursue his career abroad, moved to Thailand and played regularly for Rbac Mittraphap andBangkok Christian College in the Thai Regional League Division 2.

Phnom Penh Crown

After a year playing in Thailand, arrived on trial at Phnom Penh Crown in February 2015, scored two goals in his first friendly match against Build Bright United and was quickly snapped up by Crown Head coach Sam Schweingruber, who said: “We are delighted Shane has signed with us, he was our target player to get on board. He is both experienced and talented and his outstanding technique has in the past weeks excited teammates, staff and fans. We are looking forward to Shane’s contribution to defend the title.”In his first season at the RSN Stadium, he finished as joint top goalscorer with George Bisan, with both players netting 24 goals each, and Booysen collected his teammates award as their MVP, as Phnom Penh Crown scooped up their sixth Metfone Cambodian League Championship, beating Nagaworld in the Play-Off Final. On 16 January 2016, Booysen played and scored a goal for the K Cement Cambodian All Stars in a 4-3 victory over Thailand's Muangthong United at the National Stadium in Phnom Penh, watched by a crowd of 45,000.
