Shashank Arora is an Indian actor, writer and musician.[1] He is the first and only Indian actor to have his films in competition at both Cannes and the Sundance Film Festival.

Early life and education

Born 21 February 1989 in New Delhi, Shashank was interested in music and theatre from a young age. After finishing high school in early 2006, he left for Montreal, Canada to study cinema and music. While there, he briefly joined a street theatre group formed by human rights activists. In 2008, he moved to Mumbai where he studied acting for two years, to pursue a career in film.[2]

Career

Shashank Arora first appeared as a supporting character in an indie feature film titled 'Myoho' (2012).

He then went on to play the title role in 'Titli' (2014)[3] which was a part of the Official Selection, Un Certain Regard at the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival.[4]

Post Titli, he completed work on his second film in late 2014, again in a title role, in the comedy Brahman Naman, which was a part of the Official Selection, World Cinema Dramatic Competition, at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

He has since finished work on two more feature films, The Song of Scorpions and Rock On!! 2[5] which are both due for commercial release in India in late 2016.
