Christopher John Rosales Ongkiko (born February 13, 1992),[1] who records under his stage name Shehyee,[1] is a Filipino rapper, singer, songwriter, television personality and actor. He is best known for his 2013 hit singles Trip Lang and Inspirasyon. He first garnered recognition by participating and battling in the entertainment rap battle league in the Philippines entitled FlipTop: The First Filipino Rap Battle League for several years; his battles were uploaded in the social media video sharing site, YouTube that garnered millions of views and shares and went viral online. Shehyee and his notable friend Smugglaz extremely rose to fame by winning the Dos Por Dos Tournament of the said league by beating other great emceees.[2][3] He later rose to prominence as a rapper, releasing several singles and an album. Shehyee has also participated in acting, appearing in two films. Nowadays, Shehyee is one of the most notable Filipino rappers.[4]
Early life
Shehyee was born Christopher John Ongkiko and he raised in Mandaluyong, Philippines[5] on February 13, 1992. His brother Renz Ongkiko, also a News5 reporter.[1] Ongkiko graduated high school in Jose Rizal University as an honor student, and later he attended San Beda College.
Rapping career
Shehyee rose to fame in an entertainment hiphop rap battle league in the Philippines, his battles became popular and reached millions on YouTube. Shehyee and his known friend, Abra that's also an Pinoy hip hop artist are considered rivals because of their looks and same tactics but considered as a blockbuster when they collaborate[6]
2013: Shehyee
Shehyee released his debut self-titled album named Shehyee on October 11, 2013.[5][7] His debut single, Trip Lang went number one on Myx Top 10 chart and in the top ten in different local charts in the Philippines; It was a blockbuster hit locally, reaching 14 million views on YouTube and a million streams on Spotify.[8] His second single "Inspirasyon", which is about a journey of a hopeless romantic guy was praised by an author as a quality song and reached 3 million views on YouTube.[9] There have been several mall tours with the same name promoting the album, the most notable was on Iloilo. His single Trip Lang was nominated as the Best Rap Recording on the 27th Awit Awards.[10]
2014-present: Isang Umaga and Spotify Emerge victory
Shehyee released another single on September 25, 2014 on YouTube,[11] the track is entititled Isang Umaga;[11] it is about a guy worrying about his relationship with his girlfriend, who is Meg Imperial in the music video.[11] In July 2015, he won the first Spotify Emerge in Asia, he won by topping 10 other artists from the continent, including Marion Aunor.[12]
He announced on his fight against another Filipino rapper Pistolero on FlipTop that he will have another album very soon on 2015 and his fans should watch out.[13]
