Shih-Ching Tsou is a Taiwan-born, producer, actress, director, costume designer and editor. She co-directed the film Take Out with Sean S. Baker.

Career

At The New School, Tsou met Sean S. Baker where they made the film Take Out which Baker and Tsou co-directed, co-wrote, co-produced the film. Tsou also edited the film. Production on the film began in 2003, it took five years prior to the film being released.[1] The film had its world premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival on January 18, 2004, where it won Regal Cinemas Dreammaker Award, it went onto screen at the Nashville Film Festival where it won Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Award.[2] The film was released in a limited release in the United States on June 6, 2008.[3] Tsou went onto work with Baker on his third film Starlet Tsou served as an executive producer and costume designer on the film.[4] The film had its world premiere at SXSW on March 11, 2012.[5] The film was released in a limited release on September 9, 2012 by Music Box Films.[6] Baker and Tsou collaborated again on Tangerine, Tsou served as a producer on the film as well as the costume designer, art department and additional camera operator, and made her acting debut in the film, it was filmed completely on an iPhone 5s.[7] The film had its world premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2015.[8] The film was released in a limited release by Magnolia Pictures on July 10, 2015.[9] Tsou is currently working with Baker on their second co-creation, Left Handed Girl, a family drama set in a night market in Taipei, Taiwan.[10]

Personal life

Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Tsou came to New York for her master's degree in Media Studies at The New School.[2]
