Shibab-ud-din Omar Khan Khilji (1310?–1316) was the third Sultan of the Khilji Dynasty and 13th Sultan of Delhi. He ascended the throne as a minor with the death of his father Alauddin Khilji in January 1316. He became Sultan with the help of Malik Kafur, the Military Commander. After the assassination of Kafur, his brother Qutb-ud-din Mubarak became Sultan.
Reign
Malik Kafur's Regency
Allauddin Khilji, the greatest ruler of the Khiljis, died on 3 January 1316.[1] Malik Kafur, the commander-in-chief of the army, placed the young Shibabuddin on the throne and became the regent. Kafur executed all the princes having any claim to the throne. The eyes of Princes Khizr Khan and Shadi Khan were ordered to be cut out.[2] Prince Mubarrak was detained in the Palace of Thousand Pillars but escaped using his cleverness. Nobles and Slaves of Allauddin were also punished.[3] Kafur ruled for 35–36 days before being assassinated by Allauddin's bodyguards. In April 1316 Prince Mubarrak detained Shibabuddin and became the Sultan. Shibabuddin was moved to Gwalior where he died the same year.
Title
Shibabuddin's complete title was:
"al-sultan al-azam shihab al-dunya wa'l din abu'l muzaffar umar shah al-sultan".[4]
