Shining Sun is the fourth studio album by the Ukrainian folk metal band Holy Blood, released on December 24, 2010.
Recording history
According to the band press release, the songwriting started as early as in 2005 with the previous members, who wrote some of the material, but personal reasons forced the band to split up in 2008. With a new line-up, the band completed the album in 2010. The previous members are also credited for the initial songwriting.
Native instruments on the album include harp, goat bagpipe and the ancient Slavic buzka. The lyrics deal with appreciation for nature and homeland with worshipful elements; the album title refers to God.
The album has less black and death metal elements compared to previous albums and is more melodic, and according to band, has some amounts of hardcore and metalcore elements, more or less apparently. It also features lead vocals from keyboardist Vera Knyazyova. A critic found the album to be better and more accessible than the bands's previous efforts.[1]
