The Shintetsu 6500 series (神戸電鉄6500系 Kōbe Dentetsu 6500-kei) is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type on order by the private railway operator Kobe Electric Railway (Shintetsu) in Japan for entry into service from spring 2016.[1]

Design

The new trains are to be built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe.[1] Based on the earlier 6000 series trains also built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, they will have stainless steel bodies with three pairs of sliding doors per side.[1]

Formation

The trains will be formed as three-car sets, with two motored driving ("Mc") cars sandwiching a non-powered trailer ("T") intermediate car.[2]

Interior

Passenger accommodation will consist of longitudional bench seating. LCD passenger information screens above the doorways will provide information in four languages: Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean.[1]

History

Details of the new order were announced in June 2015.[1]
