Shippo
Shippo is an American software company that helps e-commerce businesses, online marketplaces, and platforms integrate shipping with multiple major carriers through their API and web application. Some of their customers and partners include GoDaddy, Memebox, Shyp, Vinted, and Mercari.[1][2][3]
Business
Shippo was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.[1] Shippo has 16 employees and 14,000 customers after eighteen months.[4]
Shippo supports an API, web interface, as well as direct integrations with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Etsy, Magento, Bigcommerce, Weebly, and GoDaddy.[5][6][7] Shippo aggregates all of its customers’ packages through their own account with carriers to get discounted rates, which they then pass onto customers.[1][2] They help merchants with shipping labels and fulfillment.[8][9]
History
Initially a German-based company, Shippo began as an e-commerce platform selling international products to international customers, but later pivoted to focusing on shipping only.[10][11] Their vision is to provide small online businesses the same discounts that larger retailers would get with major carriers, such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL.[4][12] Shippo is often highlighted as part of studies in logistics and delivery methods.[13][14][15]
Laura Behren Wu is the CEO and co-founder of Shippo. She and co-founder, Simon Kreuz, are both German nationals and previously attended the University of St.Gallen.[4][11][12] Wu spoke on the panel at the Women 2.0 HowTo Conference alongside female leaders from Airbnb, InstaEDU, and Urbansitter.[16]
Shippo participated in Plug and Play's StartupCamp in January 2014 and was part of 500 Startups Batch 8.[1][4][10][12] Mattermark named them the 2nd fastest rising company of the batch.[17] They raised $2 million in seed funding, led by SoftTechVC.[1][2][11] Jeff Clavier, Managing Partner of SoftTechVC, is also on Shippo’s Board of Directors.[11][18]
