[4] He is also known for his appearances on episodic TV shows such as MTV Webbed, Yeh Hai Aashiqui and MTV Rush.[5]

Early life

Patil is the son of Mrunalini patil, who is a producer-director of Marathi films. He is also part of a dance crew called Street Soul Dance Crew, under the nicknames 'Evolution' and 'Bboy Evolution'.[2][3][6] He took an acting course under Barry John.[7]

Acting career

Television

Patil was cast in a thirteen episode fiction show on MTV India, called MTV Rush, a show based on a fictional college festival called Rush, which was directed by filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar and slated to be aired in 2012.[8] In 2013, he played the protagonist in the 6th episode of MTV Webbed called "Even Family is Fair Play", where he portrayed the character of a sexually confused teenager.[5] In 2014, he played the lead in the 42nd episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui. In this episode, he portrayed the role of an aspiring writer suffering from depression, who falls in love with a girl he meets in an accident.[9] Following this, he appeared in the 68th episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui. [10]

Bollywood

In 2012, Patil was cast as the male lead in the coming of age film Nasha, where he played the role of Sahil, a teenage student who falls in love with his drama teacher Anita played by Poonam Pandey.[11] He was called the "surprise packet of the film" by Taran Adarsh, who noted his ease in front of the camera.[12] Khalid Mohamed, reviewing for the Deccan Chronicle, called his performance in the film "particularly impressive, confident and nuanced, without ever going over the top". Mohamed also stated, "surely, he deserved a better first film".[13] The Mumbai Mirror stated that "Shivam plays it stiff and not terribly expressive. This ultimately works for his character Sahil, and is completely intentional."[14]

As of November 2015, Patil had completed work on Sunny Deol's Ghayal Once Again, the sequel to Deol's 1990 film Ghayal. In Ghayal, Patil plays Rohan, a lawyer’s son who stands up against injustice. Directed and written by Sunny Deol, the film was released worldwide on February 5th, 2016.[4] Upon release, Patil's performance in the film was appreciated by critics.[15] Ritika Handoo, reviewing for Zee News, called his performance "a job worthy of mention".[16] Anna MM for the Firstpost said that "Aanchal Munjal and Shivam Patil - Anushka and Rohan here – are worth watching out for" and Shubha Shetty-Saha reviewing for Mid Day mentioned "Good performances (especially by the four youngsters)".[17][18] Screenwriter and director Khalid Mohamed called his performance "impressive".[19]
