Background

Showbox was founded in 2013 by Effi Atad and Tomer Afek. Effi Atad founded New Media communication, which was sold to the American company Harmonic Inc. in 1997.[9] Prior to becoming an internet entrepreneur, Effi Atad was a film produce for the films Elef Neshotav Shel Naftali Siman-Tov (1989) [10] and Ahrey HaChagim (1994).[11] Tomer Afek was the CEO of ConvertMedia, a New York-based media buying platform and a principal investor in one of Israel's biggest Venture Capital firms, Evergreen.[12]

Showbox has raised over $8.5M to date in series A funding round.[13] All of the capital was raised from private Angels, most of whom are media executives such as Charles Petruccelli, the former president of American Express Global Business Travel; Brad Wechsler, chairman of IMAX; Wix co-founder and chief technology officer Giora Kaplan; and TPG Capital senior partner Karl Peterson.[14] The company has been operating in stealth mode for the last two years and will utilise the funding to continue product development and drive market penetration. The platform uses freemium model that allows users to access more advanced services for a fee as their needs grow.

Events

Showbox participated in VidCon 2015 in Anaheim, California. Showbox booth enabled thousand of people to create a video on the spot.
