Siggy Flicker (born Sigalit Paldiel[1])is a relationship expert,[2][3] matchmaker, television personality[4][5] and author of Write Your Own Fairy Tale: The New Rules for Dating, Relationships, and Finding Love On Your Terms.[6] She starred in the VH1 reality television series Why Am I Still Single?![7] and has appeared as a guest on several talk shows.[8]
Background
Flicker grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Her mother named her Sigalit after the Hebrew word for "violet."[1] She attended Monmouth University and supported herself as a waitress at TGI Friday’s. Siggy earned a BA in Communications.[9]
Career
Flicker has been a successful matchmaker for more than 20 years[7][10] and has appeared on national TV programs offering relationship advice. For example, Flicker said on NBC’s TODAY show: "Being single isn’t going to kill you, and being married or being in a relationship isn’t going to heal you."[11]
She often cites her personal life for examples of healthy relationships.[7][12][13] After she and her husband of 10 years divorced amicably, she acted as his matchmaker.[4][5] Later when she remarried, her ex-husband served as the best man at her second marriage, a move the New York Post’s Page Six described as “extremely grown-up.”[5]
Flicker’s book Write Your Own Fairy Tale will be published by NAL on September 29, 2015.[6] The book offers advice on such topics as defining “the relationship you want,” taking a break from dating, and learning how to “make the most of the first five minutes.” Bravo also recently announced that she will be joining the Season 7 Cast of The Real Housewives of New Jersey[6]
Media
Flicker has appeared as a guest on the following television programs: Good Morning America,[3] Good Afternoon America,[14] TODAY[11] Dr. Phil,[15] Joy Behar: Say Anything!,[16] The Wendy Williams Show,[14]Showbiz Tonight,[8] Dr. Drew Lifechangers,[17] The Jeff Probst Show,[18] Access Hollywood,[19] Fox & Friends,[20] Big Morning Buzz Live with Carrie Keagan, Mob Wives: The Sit Down,[14] and The Couch,[21] as well as on several radio stations throughout the country.[22][23][24]
She has also provided commentary on celebrity relationships for publications such as In Touch Weekly,[25] The Huffington Post[26] and Us Weekly.[27] Her advice column, “Single with Siggy,” debuted in the September 2013 issue of Marie Claire.[28] She is known for her loud[29][30] and over-the-top approach.[29] The Village Voice described her as a “hyper mix of Teri Hatcher and Sandra Bullock.”[4] As she puts it, “My whole life I have always been on, I am a hyperactive person, I don’t hold back from anything.” [31]
Flicker starred in the reality television series Why Am I Still Single?!, which premiered on VH1 on October 16, 2011.[30] Each episode featured two clients, a man and a woman, who were having trouble dating. Flicker put each client on a test date with one of her recruiters without informing them whom they’re dating.[4][12] She then monitored the date secretly via a remote camera in order to assess their issues.[29] Afterward she gave each client lessons in an effort to improve their dating habits.[30]
Personal life
In 1997 she married Mark Flicker, with whom she has two children.[5] The couple divorced amicably in 2007.[4] Flicker remarried in 2012 to car salesman Michael Campanella.[5] Speaking of her love life she said, “I ended up falling in love with a bald car salesman, but I've never been so rich before—where it counts. You can fake many things in life, but true chemistry, you can't fake."[4]
