Signs of the Times (UK)
For other uses, see Sign of the times.
Signs of the Times was a left wing discussion group operating in London in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Several of the organisers were associated with the Democratic Left group, though others held no affiliation.
The group hosted debates around alternatives to New Labour praxis and sought to reconcile ideological currents to the left of Labour with a cultural analysis of post-Marxist politics. In spite of developments such as the 2004 European Social Forum being held in London and interest in alternatives to New Labour rising on account of the war in Iraq, as of 2007 the group is non-operational, with several members instead playing roles in Compass and even Respect Renewal.
