Silicon Valley University (SVU) is a private, non-profit, higher educational institution located in San Jose, California, US. The university has been accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) at the master's degree level since 2003,[2] and the newer Doctor of Computer Engineering (DCE) program has also been accredited by ACICS since 2010.[3]
In 2015, it was reported that the Silicon Valley University was under scrutiny by the United States Customs and Border Protection Agency. In this context, numerous students enrolled in this university had been deported at the US immigration check on their arrival.[4] According to reports, many students admitted to SVU were "locked up like criminals...and eventually unceremoniously deported".[5] International students were asked to choose between a ban from entering US for five years or the withdrawal of application to SVU.[6] It was reported that over 200 students enrolled in the Silicon Valley University had been denied entry into the United States.[7] The university has denied claims of being "blacklisted" by immigration officials.[8]
The tax documents filed by the Silicon Valley University exhibit that SVU paid $250,000 to a firm in Taiwan that markets and recruits students.[9] The 2012 Tax returns of SVU exhibited highly atypical patterns where three directors were listed as working zero hours per week and receiving zero compensation.
In 2012 during visa fraud proceedings, federal authorities had claimed that the Silicon Valley University was accepting transfer credits from Herguan University, a violation of the stipulations of federal law.[10]
