Simple Energy is a privately held software-as-a-service ("SaaS") company that motivates people to save energy. By partnering with utility companies to better engage their customers, Simple Energy's digital customer engagement program brings value to customers while driving positive, measurable business outcomes for utilities. The company transforms customer and consumption data into digital experiences that inspire people to take action.

Simple Energy is currently partnering with top-tier utility customers across North America.

The company's software has a verified 6.7% energy savings, and over 10% during peak times. By making energy savings more accessible and fun, people are more likely to participate in utility program initiatives and by providing valuable messages, tools and rewards, customers begin to enjoy their interactions with their utility.

Since 2011, the engagement platform has been deployed in 2.5 million homes in multiple service territories.

In February 2015, Simple Energy launched an extension of their core product Marketplace, an e-commerce platform that connects utilities and consumers by offering energy-saving household products and services with instant rebates. Its goal is to empower customers to reduce energy consumption and make informed purchasing decisions by delivering individualized energy-saving tips and recommendations. "Beyond simply adding new revenue streams, a marketplace like this helps to change the paradigm for utilities. It moves them away from selling raw resource and turns them into a central energy resource -- advice, supply and products, all from one vendor." - Forbes [1]

Simple Energy is headquartered in Boulder, Colo., and has an office in London.

History

Simple Energy was founded by longtime friends Yoav Lurie and Justin Segall, classmates at Duke University in 2010.[2] The two had met on a backpacking trip in Pisgah National Forest in 2000.[3]

Green Button

In September 2011, then-US CTO Aneesh Chopra challenged the energy industry to model a Green Button, off the successful Blue Button, where energy providers would give energy users their consumption data in an easy to read and use format at the click of the button.[4] In January 2012, Simple Energy became the first third-party application developer to implement the Green Button standard to deploy publicly available applications.[5]
