Sims Park
Sims Park is located in the heart of downtown New Port Richey, Florida along Main Street and the Pithlachascotee River. It includes a playground and amphitheatre. The park is used for many events including Chasco Fiesta and Cotee River Seafood & Blues Festival. It is adjacent to the historic Hacienda Hotel.
When the City of New Port Richey was formed, the first act of the city council was to accept Enchantment Park as a gift from city pioneer George Sims. The park was renamed Sims Park. A waymarker commemorates the gift.[1]
Sims' wife Marjorie earned the first Chasco Fiesta Queen title in 1922 at the first incarnation of the annual fundraising event linked to a legend honoring Native Americans who once inhabited the area. The amphitheater at Simms Park has hosted famous musicians, two sitting U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush) as well as two vice presidents (Dan Quayle and Joe Biden).
