Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC) (Bengali: স্যার সলিমুল্লাহ মেডিকেল কলেজ) is a government medical school in Bangladesh. It is located in the old part of the capital, Dhaka. It is affiliated with the University of Dhaka as a constituent college. Before 1854 it was a Dutch "kuthi" which was used for business purpose.[1] It became a medical college in 1962.[2]

College Library:The library is on the ground floor of new academic building with a large collection of medical books.
SANDHANI Library:It is situated at 101,6 no. building, mitford hospital. It contains a vast collection of novels, thrillers, poems, journals with a view to spread light of literature among medical students.
There are seven hostels (dormitories) in this medical college. The main hostel and its extension (male), Alauddin Hostel (male), two ladies hostels, Internee hostel (male) and Internee Hostel (female).
Academics
The medical college consists of following departments: preclinical (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology), paraclinical (pathology, microbiology, forensic medicine, community medicine, pharmacology), clinical medicine (general medicine, psychiatry, neuromedicine, nephrology, cadiology, sexual-skin-and-venereal diseases), pediatrics, surgery (general surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, Urology, cardiothoracic surgery), gynaecology and obstetrics, ophthalmology, otolaryngorhinology, anesthesiology and diagnostic (clinical laboratory, radiology and imaging). In the year 2012 college also started the undergraduate course in dentistry (BDS) and 67 students has been admitted in this year. The medical college possesses a 600-bed general hospital including OPD and IPD services in the above disciplines and an integrated emergency department.
190 students with pre-medical A-level education are admitted each year through open competitive examination for undergraduates. Students are awarded undergraduate MBBS degree after five years' study in college and hospital and four professional examinations (first after 1year 4 months years, second after 2.5 years, third after 3.5 years and final after 5 years of admission) under the University of Dhaka. Then, they do one year full residency training in the hospital to get registration for practicing medicine. It is one of the most prestigious medical college in South Asia. The undergraduate program of this college is recognized by General Medical Council of UK.
The medical college provides post graduate education in surgery, medicine, gynecology and obstetrics. The degrees awarded are MD, MS and diplomas.
