Sleeping Beauty Wakes

Sleeping Beauty Wakes is a musical with a contemporary rock/pop/jazz feel by writer Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and composer/lyricists Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda (two members of the trio GrooveLily). The show is a twist on the classic Grimm's fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. In this modern-day version, Rose is brought to a sleep-disorder clinic to wake her from her 900-year nap.

It was presented March 31 to May 20, 2007 at the Kirk Douglas Theater of the Center Theater Group[1] in Los Angeles, CA], a co-production with Deaf West Theater, directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun. In the spring of 2011, McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, New Jersey staged a production of Sleeping Beauty Wakes. The show also ran at The La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California in the summer of 2011. Another production is scheduled for spring 2016 at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, WA.
