Smooth Island (Nunavut)

Within Nunavut, Smooth Island may refer to one of islands.

1. The most significant island lies in the Rankin Inlet, of Nunavut, surrounded by the Broken Islands, Longspur Island, Ground Squirrel Island, the Barrier Islands and Kango Island.^[1][2] The island has a peak of approximately 37 metres. It has an open deciduous forest and wetland.^[3]

Two other islands named "Smooth Island" are classified by the Canadian government as being located within Nunavut,^[1] when in fact they are located significantly closer to Quebec. (The territory of Nunavut closely follows the Quebec coastline, as observed by clicking the following coordinates):

2. Smooth Island 61°00′02″N 70°06′42″W / 61.0004191°N 70.111715°W.

• • This island is continuous with Imnak Island and Kingnektak Island, in the Western Passage of Diana Bay. Diana Bay lies to the west of Quaqtaq in northern Quebec. The island has a peak of approximately 30 metres.

3. Smooth Island 61°59′48″N 72°17′33″W / 61.9966427°N 72.2926267°W.

• • This island lies between Maiden Island and Double Island, separating King George Sound from the Hudson strait. The island has a peak of approximately 152 metres.
