Social Airways is an online social network platform that connects people who are on the same flight, allows travelers to find methods of utilizing flight time and provides alternative options to make traveling more social. The company is privately owned and operated by Social Airways Ltd.[1] The startup is based in Limassol, Cyprus.[2]

History

Social Airways was founded after Greek-Cypriot entrepreneur, Stylianos Lambrou was traveling to San Francisco before his final year at the University College London.[3] Realizing the lack of connection between travelers, he began drafting a business plan, which became his final year dissertation. While attending his final year at UCL in London, he founded Social Airways.[4] Camilo Nova, angel investor and CEO of Colombia based software development company, AxiaCore met Stylianos during his visit in Palo Alto, California. In March 2014, Social Airways received $100,000 investment from AxiaCore.[5][6]

In September 2014, Social Airways integrated Skyscanner's flight information into their own website, allowing travelers searching flight tickets to book directly from their social travel account.

Reception

In August 2014, Social Airways was named National Champions for the 2014 European Business Awards in Cyprus.[7]
