Soka Gakkai Italian Buddhist Institute
The Soka Gakkai Italian Buddhist Institute (Italian: Istituto Buddista Italiano Soka Gakkai) is the Italian section of Soka Gakkai, a Japanese Buddhist religious movement, and, consequently, of the Soka Gakkai International organisation (hence the acronyms SGI-Italia and SGI-I).
The SGI-Italia was founded in 1998 on the ashes of the Soka Gakkai Italian Association (1993), whose precursors were active since the late 1970s.[1][2]
In 2015 the SGI-I, which counts 75,000 members,[2] signed an agreement with the Italian government, in accordance with article 8 of the Italian Constitution (which regulates the relations with religious minorities), but the agreement has not yet become law[3][4] (the rapporteur in the Senate is Roberto Calderoli of Lega Nord).[5][6]
