Solouk Duo is an Iranian contemporary music group.

History

In 2009, Saad Mahmoud Jawad came to Paris, at Theatre de la Ville, to perform with his oud. He was with an Iranian musician, an oudplayer too : Shahram Gholami. Among the audience, unknown to Gholami, was his compatriot Habib Meftahbouchehri, an exiled percussionnist. Meftahbouchehri has been banned from his motherland since he performed in “La Babelle Heureuse”, created by the contemporary dance company Montalvo-Hervieu.[1]. Habib decided to meet him after the performance. The two men talked and Habib proposed an oud-percussion duet, mixing Shahram's classical references from Tehran, and those of Habib, who comes from South of Iran, and grew up in a mix of Indian, African and Arabic references. They choose the name "Solouk Duo" : a “Spiritual path and quest” in Persian language.

Discography

Solouk Duo has published its first album Helheleh in Iran, with Avakhorsid label. This album, originally entitled Yell, will be released soon, on Ohrwurm label.
