Songs My Brother Taught Me

Songs My Brothers Taught Me is a 2015 American feature film. It is the debut film of Chinese- American filmmaker Chloé Zhao. Zhao went through 30 drafts of the script before she began filming.[1] The film used non-professional actors and was filmed on location in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival as part of the U.S. Official Competition.[2] It later played at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival as part of the Director's Fortnight selection. The movie was later acquired by Fortissimo Films.[3]

Production

Zhao filmed over 100 hours of footage which she then edited down into the film.[4]

Reception

Awards

The film was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature in 2015.[5]
