Sophia Omotola Omidiji (born June 18, 1997) is a Nigerian football player. She currently plays for the Nigerian U-20 Women National team [1] [2] [3]and is signed to Dutch Club FC Eindhoven women team. Omidiji is known for her speed, strength and killer instincts in front of goal.[4]

Early life

Omidiji was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and played high school football for Sierra Vista High School where she is the all-time leading goal scorer including scoring 38 goals in her final season.[5] She also played club soccer with Las Vegas Premier Sports Academy for coach Eyal Dahan.[6]

Omidiji played for Las Vegas Premier Sports Academy from 2013-2015.

Sierra Vista High School

Sophia Omidiji played for Sierra Vista High School from 2011-2014 becoming the all-time leading goal scorer for the school and leading the school to the playoffs in every year she played at the school including the school's first ever regional/State/NIAA Southern Nevada final.[7]

FC Eindhoven

In August 2015, Omidiji signed with FC Eindhoven women team in the Netherlands after going on trial with Ado Den Haag Vroumen team.[8][9][10][11][12] She is yet to play for FC Eindhoven as she received her call up to the National team as soon as she signed for FC Eindhoven.

International

Omidiji received her first national team call up with Nigerian National U-20 women Football team for an African world cup U-20 qualification game against Democratic Republic of Congo in an away game in Kinshasa. [13] She trained with the team in Abuja before heading to Kinshasa for the game against Congo where Nigeria won 2-1.[14][15]

Personal

Omidiji's father Lateef Omidiji was born and raised in Lagos but is an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State,[16] Nigeria while her grandfather- Bili is also an indegene of Abeokuta, Ogun State but was born and raised in Iju Ota in Ado/Ota Local Government Area. Her middle name "Omotola" is a yoruba name meaning a child is as worthy as wealth.[17] She has three younger brothers- Lateef Jr, Rasheed and Amir. She stated that her long term goal is to own a professional women team in Nigeria and at some point coach women football in Africa and plans on getting UEFA coaching licenses while she's still playing.
