Soppong, sometimes mistakenly spelled as "Sappong",[1] (Thai: สบป่อง) is a village and tambon (subdistrict) of Pang Mapha District, in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand.[2] In 2005 it had a total population of 7398 people. The tambon contains 8 villages.
Notable Features
Temples
Soppong has two Buddhist temples, at either end of the village, one is a forest monk temple, called Wat Ming Muang. It also has a Christian church, a Chinese temple, and a Haw Chinese Muslim mosque in old Soppong.[1]
Nature
The Lang River runs through the town, and passes through the Tham Lot cave. Soppong has many other caves, with some prehistoric items.[1] Recently the movie, The Man With The Iron Fists 2, which was released in April, was filmed mainly in Pangmapha district with some mines scenes in the Tham Lot cave.[3]
Economy
Soppong is home to many rice fields, which is its primary business. Other than that, Soppong is a large tourist destination, people come from all around the world to explore the caves and hike the trails.
