Soso is a town in Jones County, Mississippi. The population was 379 at the 2000 census. The late Paul Davis from Rose Hill, MS also wrote a song called "Sweet Magnolia Blues" which referenced Soso, MS within the song.

History

According to tradition, the name was derived from an old settler's common response to a greeting: "so-so".[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2), of which 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2) is land and 0.50% is water.

As of the census[5] of 2010, there were 408 people, 160 households, and 116 families residing in the town. The population density was 189.7 people per square mile (73.2/km²). There were 174 housing units at an average density of 87.1 per square mile (33.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 20.3% African American, and 0.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.

There were 157 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.00.
