Taxonomy and distribution
The South Georgia shag is one of the blue-eyed shags, sometimes placed in the genera Leucocarbo, and a subspecies of the imperial shag. It is often treated as a full species. It is also sometimes considered to be restricted to South Georgia and Shag Rocks, with populations in the South Sandwich Islands and South Orkney Islands referred to the Antarctic shag (P. atriceps bransfieldensis).[1]
