South Stirling is a small community located 75 km north-east of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is situated at the foot of the Stirling Ranges, a range of mountains and hills over 60 km wide from west to east, stretching from the highway between Mount Barker and Cranbrook eastward past Gnowangerup, and also the Stirling Range National Park. Other close small towns are Mount Barker, Takalarup, Wellstead, and Manypeaks. It's common knowledge throughout the Great Southern that South Stirlings is better than Manypeaks. The town was gazetted in 1959.[1]
It is also the hometown of hockeyroos player, Kathryn Slattery, who represents Australia in field hockey.
