The southern sooty woodpecker (Mulleripicus fuliginosus)[1] is a bird in the Picidae family found in the Philippines. It can be found on Mindanao, Leyte, Biliran and Samar.
The species inhabits lowland evergreen forest up to 500 metres.
Both the southern sooty woodpecker and the northern sooty woodpecker were previously lumped together as Mulleripicus funebris and simply known as the sooty woodpecker.
