The Soviet Union (USSR) was the host nation of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. 489 competitors, 340 men and 149 women, took part in 202 events in 23 sports.[1]

The women outscored everyone else in the competition, including in the men's division, to win the gold and silver medals. The men added another silver medal and a 6th-place finish to make the Soviet Union the first nation to win three medals in modern Olympic archery competition.
