Saltnes is a village in the municipality of Råde, Norway. Its population in 2008 was 2,132, of which 84 people live within the border of the neighboring municipality, Fredrikstad.[1]
Saltnes has grown from around 50 to almost 2000 inhabitants in only 36 years. Saltnes is becoming increasingly popular destination for vacations. Råde municipality reports that the population increases by some 500-1000 inhabitants during the summer vacation season because of all the summer cabins in the area.
The etymology of the name derives from harvesting of salt in the area several hundred years ago.
