The Nepalese play many sports at national as well as international level as well as for competition. The most common sport played in Nepal is football followed by cricket. Recently Nepal is getting international recognition for cricket. Currently Nepal has been given t20 membership status by icc for qualifying to 2014 t20 world cup held in Dhaka. But as Nepal couldn't qualify for t20 world cup 2016, its t20 membership was taken away. T20 world cup 2016 is going to be held in India.
In SAG (south Asian games) 2016 which was held in India, Nepal won the gold medal in men's football beating India by 2-1.
Before SAG, Nepal also won BANGABANDHU GOLD CUP final beating Baharain by 3-0 and U19 SAFF championship 2015 beating INDIA in tri-breaker by 5-4. Nepal currently holds 188th position in FIFA ranking.
