Spredfast is a social software platform founded in 2008. Spredfast's technology allows large companies to manage their online social media presences, build social media campaigns, and analyze social media performance. Spredfast partners with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, and Tumblr, allowing customers to manage their social media, content marketing, and social customer care efforts all from a single platform.

History

Spredfast was founded by Kenneth Cho and Scott McCaskill in March 2008 with the former name Social Agency, Inc.[2] The founders anticipated that social media was a new form of communication that enterprises would need to manage similarly to the email market 20 years prior. They pioneered the Social Media Management System (SMMS) vertical and coined the term "Social Media Management System (SMMS)" in conjunction with Altimeter Group analyst Jeremiah Owyang.[3] Cho and McCaskill bootstrapped the company for the first two years. Spredfast was named a finalist in the 2010 SXSW Accelerator that helped secure their Series A funding of $1.6M led by Austin Ventures.[4] The founders hired Rod Favaron as CEO in conjunction with their Series B funding in 2012.[5] Spredfast acquired Mass Relevance in April 2014 in an all stock deal.

White House Twitter Town Hall

In July 2011, the White House hosted a Twitter Town Hall, in which questions submitted by anyone over Twitter could be asked directly to U.S. President Barack Obama by Jack Dorsey (Twitter Chairman), to which he would respond. For this event, Twitter utilized the Mass Relevance Platform to aggregate any Tweets containing "#AskObama".[8] In total, over 160,000 #AskObama Tweets were submitted, with which 17 were selected to be asked. Not only was the Platform used for question selection, but three separate event displays showed different visualizations of the Tweet data, including geo-location and topic tracking.[9]

Twitter partnership

Twitter announced a partnership with Spredfast in November 2011.[10] Under the terms of this partnership, Spredfast was granted a license to re-syndicate Twitter content for display, publishing, and broadcast. They also were allowed to give clients access to create sponsored products using the Spredfast Platform. Finally, access to Twitter's Firehose API means Spredfast can analyze every Tweet in real-time (over 250 million daily).[11]

Acquisition of Shoutlet

In August of 2015, Spredfast acquired social marketing company Shoutlet.
