The relationship between SFXC and Marist Brothers

History

The school was founded by the Marist Brothers in Shanghai in 1893, and moved to Hong Kong in 1955.

My name is Rustawan Ijas, I attended the Marist Brothers run school by the name of St. Martins College located near Kai Tax Airport. I was accepted by Brother Peter, who I pressumed as the Principal. It was way back before 1955. When the contract for the school building was terminated, we were not able to use the building at the presen adddress of SFXC since it was not completed yet. So for the intereme we were allowed to occupy temporarily the Chinese School located near the KGV (King George V School).

Before our move to the new SFXC address. we the students made a plea that the school should go by another name of SFX. The reason was none other than to ease using the accro name of SFX when we deal in sporting activities between schools in Hong Kong. It was easier to yell "SFX" instead of St. Martins, just like KGV, our hockey apponent.

This school has over 1200 students, 60 local teachers and one foreign teacher. The present Principal is Mr.Iu Kwong Chi who was appointed in 2013.

Students usually call themselves 'Xaverians'.

The school motto is "Gentle in Manner, Resolute in Action". (Latin: Suaviter in modo Fortiter in re; 溫良剛毅)

This school is one of the three in Hong Kong that allows students to wear different coloured sports shoes to school, which is its characteristic. There are only ten school regulations, and they mostly cover actions to be taken when regulations are broken.

Prayers

Students usually offer a short prayer before classes or in morning assemblies with 'Our Father', and will usually end the prayer with:

Lead:Saint Marcellin Champagnat,
Answer:Pray for us;
Lead:Saint Francis Xavier,
Answer:Pray for us.
