St. Margaret's Church, Oslo
St. Margaret's Church (Norwegian: Margaretakirken) was a stone church built in the 13th century, placed in Maridalen in the outskirts of Oslo, Norway, close to the northern end of lake Maridalsvannet. It is now a ruin, but the ruin underwent a restoration in 1934, and is today the best preserved medieval buildings next to the Old Aker Church.[1][2][3][4] The church is named after Margaret of Antioch.
Historical performance
A historical theatre play was established in 1974 and is Oslo's outdoor play with the remains of Margaret's Church in Maridalen as a scene. Trilogy "The Maridal Play" (Maridalsspillet) contains "Church Builder", "Black Death" and "The Church silver" and was written by Carl Fredrik Engelstad just for the church ruins.
These three and several other plays have been performed in Norwegian language almost annually since 1974.[5]
