Urban districts of Sweden

Urban districts are subdivisions of the municipalities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. In Swedish, they are known as stadsdelar (literally city parts) in Gothenburg and stadsdelsområden (urban district areas) in Malmö and Stockholm. In Stockholm, stadsdelsområden are further subdivided into stadsdelar.

Occasionally, they are incorrectly referred to as boroughs in English. Urban districts form administrative units within the larger urban area or municipality, with boards that are responsible for the local area.

Urban districts are responsible for kindergartens, schools, and geriatric care within their geographical areas, as well as local cultural and recreational activities.
