Stanley Chumfwa (born October 31, 1976) is a chess player from Zambia who has a FIDE rating 2307 in 2015. He is an international master (IM). Chumfwa studied mathematics at the University of Zambia.[1]

In 2003 Stanley Chumfwa won the South African Open chess tournament, held in Centurion.

November 2005 in Lusaka (Zambia) the African Chess Championship was played. The winner was Ahmed Adly with 7 pts out of 9 games, while Chumfwa ended third with 6.5 pts. Thereby he qualified himself to enter the FIDE Chess World Cup 2005 tournament.[2] In this knockout tournament, 128 participants, Chumfwa was in the first round beaten by Etienne Bacrot, who would later on finish at the third place.

In 2010 he was captain of the Zambian team at the Chess Olympiad, in which 148 countries participated.[3] Zambia ended 47.

At the Chess Olympiad 2012, held in Istanbul, Zambia finished as 63rd.[4] The Zambian team had as members Daniel Jere, Stanley Chumfwa, Gillian Bwalya, Andrew Kayonde and Nase Lungu.[5]

In January 2014, Chumfwa participated in the Liyoca Open tournament in Lusaka,[6] finishing 3rd with 6 pts from 7 games.[7]

May 2015 Chumfwa became 3rd at the 2015 Kafue Chess Open, which was won by his brother Kelvin.[8]

July 2015 Chumfwa ended 15th at the South African Open chess tournament, held in Cape Town.[9]

Also Kelvin Chumfwa (1986), brother of Stanley, is a strong chess player (IM).
