Stars Underground is an American rock band that started in early '90s Hollywood glam punk scene,. Using the name Never On Sunday with vocalists Sharmet & Roxy Saint. They call Hollywood, California, and Boston, Massachusetts, home. The band members are Chris Kelly on guitar, Bang (Greg Scott) on bass, Shawn Vincentt on drums. After Roxy & Sharmet left the project, the band relocated back to Boston, where singer Ron John joined around 1999.

History

Back to Boston, Soundtrack to a Suicide CD

Picture of the Glam/Punk band Stars Underground

After moving back to the East Coast, the band had a couple dozen songs already written when they started recording with Joe Laquidara (former sideman for Boston (band). The ‘Soundtrack to a Suicide’ CD would be the result. It was recorded while the band started playing shows around Boston and the surrounding areas. These live shows would go on to show audiences a much rougher punk rock edge to the bands sound. That edge was lost in the studio. Instead of fixing the problem, they got a producer only looking for more money, lost in his 70s FM radio sounds, recording over tracks, leaving only his engineer to answer for him, etc, etc. ... Tie this together with the bills piling up, partying as an escape seemed like an easy answer. Soon after, finger pointing and blame led to communication within the band disolving. Half the band moved back to Hollywood, California where the ‘Soundtrack to a Suicide’ CD[1] was released in an attempt to put together a new Stars Underground line-up on the West coast.

The CD is long out of print, but can still be heared on CD Baby[2]

Self-titled CD

A couple years later a CD simply titled ‘Stars Underground’[3] was released, and the band played some shows around Boston. The song "See You Around" was released to radio, and got airplay on Boston's WBCN. The band sarted playing live shows again around the Boston area with a musician that went by the name Ant on bass guitar.

Stars Underground Hollywood 2006

2006 early 90's Hollywood Reunion Show

Stars Underground booked one show at Dragonfly in Hollywood, California. This would be vocalist Ron John's 1st and only show in Los Angeles, and the bands final show with Greg Scott on bass. It was put together by Scott to be a Early 90's Hollywood Reunion. God Zoo & Never On Sunday would headline the show, although both bands used there current lineups and band names (Stars Underground, & The Republic ). Two former Queeny Blast Pop guitarists' were on the bill, Lil D of God Zoo, and Jonny Wool with his new band Sci Fi Victim. Robbi Black of Alleycat Scratch was the DJ, and former Rock City News writer Captain Anarchy opened the show with his band Revlon Red.

Traci Michaelz of Tragedy, Hearthrob Mob, and of course The Peppermint Creeps was in the house. And for those that traveled to L.A. for the show, sadly this may have been the last time they had a chance to spend time with him. As some of you reading this may know, Traci left us, less than 2 years later.

Never On Sunday

While being shopped to record labels, Never On Sunday recorded an 8 track demo, and many shows were filmed to put together a one song video for the song “Sunshine”, but all of this was lost before the digital age exploded. The only known recording of Never on Sunday that exists today is the live 4 song rehearsal tape.

Zombie Strippers

In 2008 former lead singer Roxy Saint would have a major acting role in the horror movie 'Zombie Strippers.' The movie would star A Nightmare on Elm Street's Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), and Jenna Jameson.
