Stechford railway station serves the Stechford area of Birmingham, England. The station and all trains serving it are operated by London Midland. It lies at the junction between the Birmingham to Coventry line and the predominantly freight-only Stechford-Aston spur. The station was much more important at the end of the 19th century, retaining a working freight yard until as late as the 1980s. The yard tracks have since been lifted.
Platform 1 is used by services to Birmingham New Street and a few direct services from Birmingham International to Walsall, platform 2 is used by services to Birmingham International, Coventry and London. Platform 3 is used by few direct Walsall to Birmingham International trains.
On 28 February 1967, Stechford station was the scene of a train collision.
Up Walsall to Birmingham International trains have a platform face of their own, but down Birmingham International to Walsall trains use the up main platform via a facing crossover. The 19th-century bridge over the railway underwent renovation from August to September 2006.
Stechford Station has poor access for people with mobility impairments. Steep steps lead from the ticket office to the Birmingham platform, and the Coventry platform can be reached only by traversing a further bridge. People with mobility impairments are therefore generally advised to use Lea Hall, which is equipped with ramps.
The station is on Victoria Road, just off Station Road, which is part of the A4040 Birmingham outer ring road.
Services
Stechford is served by two trains per hour to Birmingham New Street from Monday to Saturday. This service is reduced to one train per hour on Sundays. Southbound, there is one train per hour to Birmingham International and one train continuing to Coventry. There is a less frequent southbound service on Sundays. During peak trains, additional Birmingham - Rugby/Northampton/Milton Keynes/London services call here, but most of these services pass through non-stop. A few direct trains operate between Birmingham International and Walsall.
