Stephen Sharnoff
Stephen Sharnoff is a botanical photographer and lichenologist.[1] With his wife, Sylvia Sharnoff, he was photographer for Lichens of North America, which won the 2002 National Outdoor Book Award. Smithsonian Institution's Thomas Lovejoy commented on the lichen photography that it was "the twenty-first-century equivalent of Audubon's Birds of America."[1] He is research associate at the University and Jepson Herbaria and the Missouri Botanical Garden. He specializes in close-up botanical color work.[1] With his wife, he also did the photography for Macrolichens of the Pacific Northwest, and lichens articles for National Geographic, Smithsonian Magazine, and Equinox Magazine.[1] He authored A Field Guide to California Lichens.
