Steven K. "Steve" Chappell (born April 14, 1953) is an American timber framer, author, and teacher. He was born in Los Angeles, California. He has been an advocate, scholar, and educator of timber framing for over 35 years. Steve is an original and co-founding member of the Timber Framers Guild. He served as a guild director from 1986-88.[1]

Steve is the founder and director of the Fox Maple School of Traditional Building (since 1983). He has personally instructed hundreds of students across the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina and Spain on the finer details of simple and compound joinery. He began Publishing Joiners' Quarterly, The Journal of Timber Framing & Traditional Building, in 1983. This allowed him to write in detail about timber framing and traditional building.

Steve Chappell has written three books to date: A Timber Framers Workshop (ISBN 978-1889269009) The Alternative Building Sourcebook (ISBN 978-1889269016) and Advanced Timber Framing (ISBN 978-1889269030)
