Steve Linde
Steve Linde is the editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
Linde was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, on April 23, 1960, and raised in Durban, South Africa.[1][2] As a 15-year-old, Linde attended a four-month ulpan experience based at Jerusalem’s Kiryat Moriah, which he said "cemented my love of Israel forever."[3][4] He immigrated to Israel in 1987 and served in the IDF Artillery Corps. Linde earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and media studies from Rhodes University.[5] He also has graduate degrees in sociology and journalism from the University of Kwazulu-Natal and the University of California at Berkeley,[6] respectively. He wrote his thesis on the emergence of Mahatma Gandhi as a charismatic leader in South Africa, at the University of Kwazulu-Natal, under the supervision of Professor Fatima Meer.[7]
Linde was appointed editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Post in 2011 after serving as managing editor, news editor and night editor at the Post for 14 years.[8] He also served as director, editor, reporter and news reader for Israel Radio’s English News over a period of 21 years until 2011. Under his editorship, the newspaper launched annual conferences in New York for its American readership and in Jerusalem for the international diplomatic community posted in Israel. Linde views the Post as a balanced and moderate newspaper, but "obviously we are pro-Israel and Zionist and for some people that’s a right-wing statement. We are very committed to the State of Israel and are not ashamed of this."[9][1]
