Stephen Paul Martinson (born June 21, 1957) is a retired American professional ice hockey player and current coach of the Allen Americans in the ECHL.

Martinson played in 50 National Hockey League (NHL) games with the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, and Minnesota North Stars over parts of four seasons. He was the head coach of the ECHL's Elmira Jackals from 2007 to 2010 and of the Chicago Express during their only season in 2011–12.[1]

Martinson was a member of the Central Hockey League (CHL) Tulsa Oilers team that suspended operations on February 16, 1984, playing only road games for final six weeks of 1983-84 season. Despite this adversity, the team went on to win the league's championship.[2]

His college career included playing the 1977-78 and 1978-79 seasons with the St. Cloud State Huskies.

Championships

Martinson won the 1983–84 CHL Championship (Adams Cup) as a member of the Tulsa Oilers [3] team coached by Tom Webster.

As a coach Martinson has won a total of nine championships in four North American ice hockey leagues, including five with the WCHL San Diego Gulls (1996–98, 2001, 2003), two with the CHL Allen Americans (2013–14), and one with the UHL Rockford IceHogs (2007).[4] The Martinson-coached Americans won the 2015 Kelly Cup in their first season in the ECHL.
