Steve Whitney is an American producer.[1] Whitney played a key role in development and packaging of such feature films as The Hurricane, Return To Paradise, and The Assignment. Whitney's films overall have done over a half a billion in worldwide box office.
After college, Whitney moved to Los Angeles and worked at Century City-based The Agency. As a literary agent there, he would represent many writers and directors.[2]
Whitney served as manager/vice president of Production at Carol Bodie Entertainment, where he worked with such clients as Winona Ryder, Rosie Perez, Dylan McDermott, and William Baldwin. In 1999, Whitney was instrumental in developing and packaging Girl, Interrupted, which garnered Angelina Jolie an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.[3]
In 2000, Whitney founded Integrated Films & Management to develop and produce films and represent talent.[4] It was here that Whitney set up the bestselling novel The Rackets at ABC starring William Baldwin and directed by Academy Award winning director Sydney Pollack.[5] He followed that up with TV projects at NBC, Fox Studios, Spike, F/X and VH1. He represented writers that worked on such films as Enemy of the State starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman, and horror franchise Final Destination among others.
In 2005, Whitney executive produced the remake of The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds, as well as the thriller-horror film Tamara starring Jenna Dewan.[6]
In 2007, Whitney merged with former CAA agent Michael Menchel and Relevant Entertainment. Whitney executive produced the true-life thriller Borderland for Lion’s Gate, which premiered at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas.[7] He then packaged the ABC TV series Dirty, Sexy, Money starring Peter Krausse, Donald Sutherland and William Baldwin.
In 2009, Whitney executive produced The Haunting In Connecticut, starring Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen, for Lion’s Gate/Gold Circle.[8]
Together with Simon Cowell, Whitney developed and produced One Chance, the true story of opera singer Paul Potts.[9]
In 2015, Whitney served as an associate producer on Boaz Dvir’s hit PBS documentary A Wing and a Prayer.[10]
