Stiebel Eltron is a company based in Holzminden, Germany that manufactures central heating products such as heat pumps. The UK office was set up on the Wirral Peninsula in 2008[1] . The company dates back to 1924 in Berlin, when Dr. Theodor Stiebel founded Stiebel Eltron. Today it is one of the world’s leading green energy low carbon specialists manufacturing ground, air and water source heat pumps.[2] It further produces ventilation and air conditioning and systems technologies. It has a world-wide turnover of 475m Euros and employs 3000 staff. The UK operation is led by managing director Mark McManus and technical director John Felgate and employs 14 staff[3] .

Heat Pumps

In the UK Stiebel Eltron’s main products are low carbon sustainable energy heat pumps. These energy efficient heating systems can be used in all forms of building that require heating and hot water including: homes, businesses, public sector buildings such as schools and hospitals, emergency service buildings, council properties, sports venues and places of worship. The heat pumps recycle energy from the air, ground or water to generate heat and hot water. Heat pumps are an alternative form of heating to oil and gas.

Advice

Stiebel Eltron provides a range of free advice services. It works with architects and developers[4] at the design stage of a project to ensure the plans maximise use of green energy to achieve excellent level BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) standard ratings. BREEAM is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It further offers a free advice service to homeowners and commercial property owners on how to convert their property to green energy.[5][6][7] This advice includes undertaking a survey of the property examining the heat loss and heat demands of the building and providing a set of recommendations. The service also offers advice on complying with legislation, applying for grants and taking advantage of tax breaks.

Stiebel Eltron currently partners with 115 installers across the UK. This includes heating engineers, electrical contractors, plumbing contractors and heating and ventilation specialists. The firm offers installers a ‘System Partner Programme’ package of benefits for working with it. This includes training both in the UK and Germany,support for registering on Government grants schemes such as the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, marketing support, and financial credit.[8][9][10] The company is a member of the Green Power Forum, a national group formed to promote knowledge, learning and expertise in green energy technology. It is a member of the trade body BEAMA and is active in lobbying Government.
