Strmendolac is a settlement in the City Trilj, the Split-Dalmatia County of Croatia
Geography
Strmendolac is located at the Karst Plateau, 4 kilometers east of Trilj. The village can be reached by road from the south from Čaporice, from the southeast, from the direction of Ugljane and the main road from Trilj.
Population
The natives are Croats, who make up the majority of the population. A majority of the population identified themselves as members of the Roman Catholic Church.
History
Strmendolac was settled in the Illyrian era, as documented by ruins and monuments. During the arrival of the Ottomans, rural resistance was crushed. The most interesting part for archaeologists are seven-foot crosses. The church of St. Nicholas was built in 1767. During World War II Strmendolac and the surrounding villages were shelled by the Italian army. Villagers hid in ˝bunkers˝ that they had made at the beginning of the war. At the end of the war the villagers hid their weapons in the hills.
Sport
In Strmendolac "Rural Olympics" were held on 1 May. According to some data, some 2000 people attended. Games and competitions included football, archery and shooting .
