Subin Bhattarai (born 5 Nov 1982) is a Nepali author and Columnist. Bhattarai's novel Summer Love was the trendsetter and popular among youths. Summer Love was Bhattarai's second book and first novel. His first book was an anthology of short stories, namely KathakiPaatra.
The plot of Summer Love concerns college students at the Central Department of Environmental Science (CDES) at Tribhuban University falling in love. It was a best selling book in Nepal with in excess of 40,000 copies sold, and one of the best-selling books in the country for the year. A year later a sequel titled Saaya was released in September 2014. which concerns how the misunderstanding in Summer Love cleared and how they convince their family. It was a best selling book in Nepal and it was reprinted in the same month August, and was one of the best-selling books in the country for the year. The book was launched by actresses GarimaPanta and KekiAdhikari and author Bhattarai himself at Nepal Academy, Kamaladi where there were thousand of fans.
Early life and education
Subin Bhattarai was born in Khotang in eastern Nepal. A year after he was brought to Kathmandu. His father was a government official and mother, a housewife. He completed his Masters degree in Environmental Science from Tribhuvan University in the year 2005. Since childhood Bhattarai has been influenced by B.P Koirala, Paarijat ,Dhruba chandra Gautam, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens and Anton Chekhov.
Writing career
Bhattarai started writing since he was in School at the age of 10. He started writing poems and recited several poems in Radio Nepal. He started to act in several dramas as child artist and co-hosted the popular Child Program "Hatemalo" in Radio Nepal. His first book "KathakiPaatra" an anthology of short stories was published in 2011. The stories revolve around the urban youths and love. Though commercially an average, Bhattarai was critically acclaimed in his first book. He was then inspired to write a youth centered novel.
Summer love (2013) was a commercially successful novel.[1][2] He was instantly Popular among youths after the success of summer love. The popularity and craze of the book demanded its sequel. After a year and half, Saaya (2014) was out in the market and the book broke his own record in terms of selling. His craze among the youths catapulated and he became an overnight writing sensation among youths. He is currently writing a column "Yuwa Man" in one of the most selling weekly magazine Kantipur Saptahik. His second book Summer Love was adapted into movie by the popular filmmaker Bikash Acharya of "Nai Na Bhannu La" series. He is currently working in his upcoming novel, Monsoon, which is supposed to be a love story.
