Sultan Ahmed Cheema
Sultan Ahmed Cheema (1908-1990) was one of the few renowned doctors left in Pakistan after independence in 1947. He served at various divisional and district hospitals simultaneously because of the acute shortage of doctors at that time. During the latter part of his career, he established the Cheema Hospital in Daska which became very famous in the field of Ophthalmology.
Patients used to come from Kabul to Karachi for getting treatment. For his services, he was decorated with the civil medal of Sitara-i-Khidmat[1] by the President of Pakistan. Dr Cheema was also the President[2] of the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan.
His quest to serve the people of his country never ended as he also became the Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan.[3][4]
His legacy is continued by his children, with five of his sons and more than ten of his grandchildren being doctors.
