Summit Medical Group is a physician-owned, for-profit, multispecialty medical practice headquartered in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. It was founded in 1929 by William H. Lawrence, MD, and Maynard G. Bensley, MD as The Diagnostic Group of Summit. It expanded to a second location in 1950. In 2003, Summit Medical Group signed a lease for a 42-acre office complex in Murray Hill, New Jersey that formerly housed the D&B Corporation.[1] Summit Medical Group now includes over 60 satellite offices covering northern New Jersey.[2] Summit Medical Group treats approximately 70,000 patients per month,[3] and offers 70+ specialties, with 617 doctors and other medical practitioners. Summit Medical Group employs more than 3,100 people. Its annual revenue is approximately $400 million.[4]

Summit Medical Group was listed among New Jersey’s fastest growing companies in 2008,[5] 2009,[6] and 2010.[7] It is a NJBIZ 2010 Corporate Citizen of the Year Award finalist[8] and it earned the 2010 Communitas Leadership Award.[9] SMG's CEO, Jeff Le Benger, MD, FACS, has been listed among the top 10 most influential people in New Jersey health care for three consecutive years (2014-2016) and was named #8 in the NJBiz Health Care Power 50 list - a publisized ranking among the leaders of well-known New Jersey healthcare organizations including Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Hackensack University Health Network, Barnabas Health, Cooper University Health Care, as well as notable state policymakers and legislators.
