The Sunway Lagoon is a theme park in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It was officially opened by then Prime Minister Tun Mahathir bin Mohamad on 29 April 1993 (17 September 1997).[1] Sunway Lagoon is a multipark extravaganza, with 80 attractions spread over 360,000 square meters.[2] It features rides in both the water park and the adjacent amusement park, excluding Scream Park, Wildlife Park & Extreme Park. In late 2008, new parks were added and minor improvements were made to the existing park.
Components
Extreme Park
Extreme Park has a variety of activities, including rides and games of skill.[3] The water ride:Vuvuzela is the largest water ride in the world.[2]
Lynton V Harris' Scream Park
Scream Park provides an interactive "scare" experience by using audio and visual effects and live actors.
Surf Beach
Sunway Lagoon is one of the world’s largest man-made surf beach, a title recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records.[2]
Interactive Wildlife Park
Wildlife Park is an interactive and educational zoo with exotic, small and friendly animals from a range of birds, reptiles and mammals. The Wildlife Park is home to more than 150 species, with the pygmy marmoset and white lions among its latest additions.[4]
Each of the animal sanctuaries has a different name such as Pet Village, Jungle Trail, Aviary, Tropical Enclosure, Tree Top Terrace and Bird Savannah.[4]
The Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon
The new Nickelodeon themed attraction was opened on 2 February 2016.[5] The development costs RM 100 million and is expected to attract 2 million visitors to Sunway Lagoon in 2016.[6] The attraction is the first Nickelodeon-themed land in Asia.[7] The new attractions feature 14 immersive attractions, some of which are built around Nickelodeon properties, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as a daily signature slime event, waterslide rides, retail shops and more.[5]
Concerts and Events
The Sunway Surf Beach also hosts events and concerts such as MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia,[8] as well as concerts by deadmau5 (2011),[9] One Republic (The Native Tour), Pitbull (2011)[10] and so on.
